While the closure of ITV Yorkshire marked "the end of an era", the television industry in Yorkshire and the Humber can use its legacy to create a positive future for regional media.
This is the message that emerged from a conference run by Sheffield Hallam University and attended by broadcasting experts.
ITV announce the closure of its Leeds studios in March, a move which will see the loss of jobs in the creative and digital sector in the region.
However, attendees at the conference believe that this talent pool can be used to boost the flourishing independent sector in Yorkshire and the Humber.
They also say that these professional will take up the mantle of creating popular programmes to enjoy both in the UK and internationally.
Speaking about the closure of ITV Yorkshire's Leeds studios, Screen Yorkshire's chief executive Sally Joynson said it was the end of a "proud history" for Yorkshire.
"The challenge is for producers to now capture the legacy of ITV Yorkshire, retain what is good but make it fit for this century," she added.
