Castleford Tigers stadium on track

jeudi, 29 juillet 2010

Rugby league club Castleford Tigers has announced that an agreement that guarantees the land required for its proposed new stadium has been signed.

The West Yorkshire team, which currently uses The Jungle at Wheldon Road, has planned its move to a new multi-activity venue in the retail district of Glasshoughton, planning permission for which has been secured by developer Waystone Ltd.

Tigers chief executive Richard Wright said: "This agreement secures the 20-acre site at Glasshoughton on behalf of the club and is another step forward in delivering the stadium."

Stuart McLoughlin, managing director at Waystone, said: "We are delighted to support Cas Tigers on their road to secure a new home for a Super League future.

"Glasshoughton attracts 3.5 million visitors each year. With major infrastructure, such as an adjacent railway station and direct motorway access, already in place it provides the ideal location for a new stadium facility."

The 335-acre site already plays host to developments like indoor ski centre Xscape and the Designer Outlet Village.

Mr Wright added: "We have an excellent working relationship with Stuart McLoughlin and Waystone and this has enabled us to advance the stadium to this point. Our next objective is to complete the detailed design and this process is now well underway."

The Tigers who had been in discussions with Wakefield Wildcats over the possibility that the clubs could share a ground but those talks appeared to have ended.
