Sheffield Hallam University is holding an open evening on Wednesday May 13th as it looks to encourage people to take up a part-time course.
The institution said it is offering people the chance to improve their skills and qualifications and succeed in the credit crunch.
Karen Wyer, the university's head of student marketing, said that in the recession many are looking to to re-train or enhance their current skills and the event is for anyone with an interest in anything.
"Part-time courses are great for people that need to fit their study around work and other commitments because they are flexible," Ms Wyer said.
She added that all organisations recognise the need to always "update the skills of their staff to remain competitive".
The event will take place at the HUBs on Paternoster Row in Sheffield.
Meanwhile, a workshop is due to be held at the university that will focus on how "green roofs" can help Sheffield maintain its place as the greenest city in the UK.
