New digital network in Yorkshire

In a boost to Yorkshire's £5 billion digital and creative industries, the country's first digital network has been brought to the region.
Yorkshire's digital companies can now access a superfast digital network and industry standard editing equipment through the NorthernNet project with the new Pay As You Go (PAYG) scheme.
The NorthernNet project was heralded to help create a world class digital and creative hub across the north of the country.
A network of 17 Media Access Bureaux (MABs), located within business, cultural and educational sites, will provide the companies with flexible access to software and download/upload speeds, which until now could only be afforded by major international firms in the field.
The £60-an-hour service will offer high speed connectivity capable of delivering 1GB files to anywhere in the world in less than two minutes.
Yorkshire has four MABs, situated at The Round Foundry in Leeds, Sheffield's Electric Works, Scarborough's Woodend Creative Workspace and East Coast Media in Grimsby.
The University of Bradford will also see an MAB later in the year.
Managing director Neil Thornton said: "Due to a growing client base we need to maximise our editing suites in the office. By accessing the MAB we can send files via the NorthernNet superfast digital pipeline in a matter of minutes."
