York firms get high-speed internet

A telecoms firm in York has invested thousands of pounds to enable businesses in the city and the surrounding area to access high-speed internet connection.
The £275,000 investment has allowed York Data Services to install two gigabit fibre links which connect directly to the national internet hub in Docklands, London.
The connection is then picked up at the company's data centre at York Science Park, which employs six people, and passed on to local businesses.
It is hoped the quality of the connection, which matches that available in London, will attract more inward investment to York
Current clients include the Electoral Commission, Alliance Medical and news agency Reuters, but York Data Services is looking to expand its client base with the latest improvements to its service.
Mark Fordyce, chief executive and chairman of York Data Services said: "We are very excited to make this investment in the current economic downturn as it will provide more opportunities for York companies at a time when next-generation internet is becoming an important part of winning business.
"This will also allow us to introduce some ground-breaking new services, including what will be the UK's fastest fibre optic broadband for businesses."
