mardi, 28 octobre 2008
The regeneration of a colliery site in Yorkshire has been given the go-ahead, it has emerged.
UK Coal has been given permission to start work on the 300-acre Prince of Wales site in West Yorkshire and once the development project is completed, 1,000 jobs will be created with 900 new homes to be erected also.
Work will now take place to remove 1.5 million tonnes of coal slurry from the colliery.
UK Coal chief executive Jon Lloyd stated: "The decision by the secretary of state now paves the way for the regeneration of an area with excellent communication links, a versatile and enthusiastic workforce and a community with a desire to move forward."
A start date for the housing development will be under regular review due to the "fragile state" of the market, UK Coal said.
The firm supplies seven per cent of the UK's needs for electricity generation and is the biggest producer of coal in the country.
